The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a seminal single malt Scotch whisky that gains its distinctive character from being matured in two different wood types. This 'cask finishing' process was pioneered by Balvenie's Malt Master, David C. Stewart MBE.

• First Maturation: Spent in traditional whisky oak casks, which mellow the spirit and impart layers of vanilla spiciness.
• Second Maturation: Transferred to European oak sherry casks for a further nine months, adding depth and fullness of flavor.
• Final Marriage: The whisky is then transferred to large oak vessels called 'tuns' for 3-4 months to allow the whiskies to marry.

This expression is celebrated for its smooth, honeyed character and complex depth, making it a staple for both newcomers and seasoned whisky enthusiasts.
