About Shinsu
Mars Shinshu distillery history traces back to the Hombo family's shochu business (est. 1872), moving into whisky production licensed in 1949, eventually establishing the current high-altitude Nagano distillery in 1985, pausing whisky making in 1992 due to low demand, but successfully restarting production in 2011, making it Japan's highest whisky distillery with its unique alpine environment influencing its character.
