Lost Explorer

The Lost Explorer is a brand of artisanal, sustainable mezcal and tequila, not a single physical distillery. The spirits are produced through partnerships with local master distillers in Oaxaca and Jalisco, Mexico. Founders: The brand was co-founded in 2020 by British environmentalist David de Rothschild and Icelandic businessman Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson. Locations and Producers: Mezcal: Produced in San Pablo Huixtepec, Oaxaca, in partnership with award-winning Maestro Mezcalero Don Fortino Ramos and his daughter Xitlali. Tequila: Produced in the lowlands (Amatitán) of Jalisco, led by the renowned Maestro Tequilero Enrique De Colsa. Production: The spirits are handcrafted in small batches using traditional methods, focusing on sustainability and the use of 100% agave. The process involves solar energy, water saving, and planting ten new agave plants for each one harvested. Products: The mezcal range includes three varietals: Espadín (8-year agave), Tobalá (10-year wild agave), and Salmiana (12-year wild agave). A blanco tequila is also offered. Awards and Recognition: The brand has received numerous awards, including Double Gold and Gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
